HANNI EL KHATIB ALIVE

Hanni El Khatib grew up in San Fransisco, digging through the crates of record stores in search of golden snippets to flip on their heads and sample. Fresh single 'ALIVE' marks a new chapter in Khatib's life. Arriving alongside the announcement of his new album Flight, 'ALIVE' is an appreciative slice of soulful synthpop. Boasting jazzy keys that ripple like water, a buoyant bass line elevates the track as the euphoric vocal hook "I can't believe I survived, all around and upside down I'm alive" retells a frightening true story. Khatib explains: "Last April I was in a pretty serious car accident. Our vehicle was rear ended at high speed leaving the car crumpled up and flipped over. Miraculously we were all able to have come out relatively unscathed with only a few minor injuries. It was definitely a close call. Even the paramedics and police officers on site were in shock that we were all standing there given the severity of the crash. The whole experience gave me some some much needed perspective on life. I knew I wanted to touch on that somehow on this record. When the instrumental came together for the track it immediately felt like the perfect backdrop for this story." Flight will be released on the in the 15th of May by Innovative Leisure. -Holly Mullineaux
